Current META heroes

Hello everyone,

In the game, people often talk about META heroes. I know that these are heroes with the best stats or special or powerful abilities.
To see which heroes currently have this status, you can look at the top 100 in PVP, and yes, they are primarily the Wildcats and Temple heroes.
As an F2P or C2P player, however, you rarely or never get such heroes.

Which heroes do you think belong to this group? And are there heroes who may not be at the top of their game right now, but can still be counted among this group of heroes?

For me, Bernadette still belongs to this group, but Wei Qi somehow doesn't, based on my gut feeling.

I am FTP and I have a few recent herors that may be considered "META"? Deviyani (I fell in love with this one), Chittrangada, Lempi, Dominique  and Lennart. Lennart dies fast but revives soon after...

In my roster, non Meta that are still useful to me are  Aether Mimic, Toxicandra, Zekena, Senan and Sedille. I'd say they are situational game changers. Not heroes one should kill themselves for, but if you are FTP and get them... Congratulations!!

Also, I got Silverpaw in the SE. I'd probably put him on that "Non Meta Must Have" list of mine. But he is still LV 1 and I only used him twice (wars).

Being a META hero depends also on the availability of counters to that hero. When Bearnadette was released she was absolutely META. I think there are enough counters to Bearnadette to keep her out of META now. I use C.Loki against her without too much trouble as long as the tiles are reasonably behaved. It does help having Mortewitch to finish her off. And I am working on Daemon as a second counter.

Of course a lot depends on who she is teamed with. But if I have little difficulty against her that speaks volumes. I do struggle against Regin.

For my bench I have as "my META" Vernon and Lempi. They will be my two strongest heroes by far once maxed. I also have Verity, who is awesome, and CB Thalassa. Hmmm, an abundance of blues ...

Interesting point...and a true one. Unfortunately tiles won't show up, if I use Loki against her 🤨

Mostly I use C-Gazelle against nearly every team to protect my heroes against all kinds of passives. Best experiences with a rate of 75% wins against current METAs (or else heroes) are my purple-yellow-mix-team:

Zazha (fast high damage + overheal)
C-Dioachan (fast heal + steal of buffs - mostly fpr Gazelle)
C-Gazelle (heal/clean all + protect)
ToonVivica (clean for Gazelle + heal if needed)
Agadh (fast high damage to "three" + block of revive)

According to your points of naming a hero a META, as a VC2P I maybe do have some METAs in my roster 😅 like Agadh, Dagr or even Wei Qi.

and regarding Regin: She is a pain in the ass. If no yellow tiles show up fast, it's game over despite C-Gazelle and three healers😂

Fighting in top 50, and keeping track of what happens in top 10 I have to say Bearn is still a major threat. Even more so in Rush where she is top tank. There are more counters yes, but pair her with Ustad or Thaffer and glass needs to kill her fast, and your other heroes can't become paintings or it's over. And glass often fails to reflect the first time.

Even somewhat easier (7800) Bearn can be tricky, one time we told players to hold off until later and they hit all 3 teams anyway. And they all failed with the first flag. And it wasn't Rush!

I don't have so many counters myself. I have been leveling Aramis for months always getting other purple, I have Ahmose unleveled. No blue glass. One time in Rush I failed a hard Bearn with my best two teams. It was a 8200, I dare use Mystia at level 82, it was a 7300 team and just bcs of her finally killed it. I had just nicked it before and Bearn was intact. It's so much about luck.

Meta heroes I have Freawaru, that one improved my defense team a lot. I have two Veer, the dodge is very useful even a Thaffer counter. Devyani, she is a Salome counter for me other than Freawaru. I hate Salome! It's the hero I want to kill ASAP!  Elsbeth, I did win battles bcs of her alone. Vernix and Bhima are my other two heroes I swear by.

Otherwise I love Ragrim but so often I have no green when I use him. I have Laurent but I find he dies too easily and often before cats which makes his passive a bit useless. Dularfur is still an amazing healer, so useful she is fast and a great Vernix counter. And one of my favorite hero is Li Kui. I have 3 Regin so that used to be my go to hero for a long time, but I didn't get the costume and now I find he dies too easily so I keep him for easier teams and recently, he dies too easily there too.

Wow, you own some cool heroes.

I'm with you about Salome. I hate facing her and like you I try to kill her first. I have no counter but try to handle her by fast heroes.

And I'm miles...no worlds apart from top 1000 🤣

Before I fought in low top 100, what's harder and different in top 50 is that the "easy" defense teams to farm are hard ones for my lower teams. Sometimes there's one really easy but that's it, and it's a popular hit lol!

In our last war it was full of hard cats. I felt overwhelmed. It was full of Salome, Ustad with cats, and cats with cats, Lane if he goes in his ghost form can be so annoying. (One time I had a ghost fight between Lane and Vernix and I lost.  I thought "ghost fight! What's next?) I ended up doing better than I thought and be better prepared mentally for the next one. At first, I was hesitant to log in, while usually I welcome the challenge, lol! We ended up winning by more than everyone expected.

I used to be able to predict who wins and lose just by seeing the defense teams but I can't do it in top 50 yet, the unknown makes it more interesting. And you definitely need to take your time bcs you can turn things around with a bad board, but you can also lose your nerve! and miss.

I am not the strongest so many of the other players have 6 strong teams to take down cats, but there's no guarantee - so the luck and skill factor plays a big role on who will win too. And who cleans, or switch to cleaning. We play smart and have a great team, and it's not all alliances that have that. I love the idea of beating the 50% win ratio, and track data on that aspect of the game. The things I learned about the war score too, lol!

Seeing defense teams like you describe I would lie on the floor crying 🤣😵‍💫

My roster isn't that deep that I can fight those teams "easily", even not with a good board. Too often the wildcats beat me with their 9 times revive - and i have only 1 Agadh to counter 😉

But of course, if viewed from your perspective, the game certainly brings interesting new aspects to the table.

These days I find myself battling in the top 100 ... 000. My cup level seems to have stagnated over the last couple years while everyone else is surging past me. Weird thing is I have a less powerful defence set and I still wake up with more cups than the night before. Frustrating to be constantly matched with teams 8500+ though when my absolute best (rainbow) team is 7800.

that sounds like well compiled defense! Congrats!

I share your frustration regarding the opponents offered—as soon as you reach 2700 to 2900 cups, only teams with 8500 TP are offered.🤨
When I use a rainbow team, I always lose. I always play 3-1-1 or 3-2. That results in 60% wins and 40% losses. 😅

It's complicated. The meta is basically whatever is strongest or close to it in any given area of the game at some point. How close depends on who you ask. I also use it to refer to environments of top-level play and the times when those environments were common, for example I'll talk about using a hero "in the Gooric meta", meaning that I used that hero against Gooric back when Gooric was the top tank. The meta term doesn't really have one specific definition, so which heroes are considered "meta heroes" depends on who you ask.

Personally, I don't really think of heroes as being "meta heroes" or not because at the end of the day, every hero has some role in a team and I want to use that hero if and only if my team needs someone to fill that role.

For example, Hygd is a very powerful cleanser, so if I'm facing some ailments that need to be dealt with (for example they might have a Vernix and a Fafnir), I'd like to bring Hygd, but if there aren't any ailments, I'd prefer a healer that counters something else. Now you don't always get that choice because nobody has a complete sandbox account and even a sandbox account couldn't always fill every role on every team because there's only 5 slots.

This is where a type of hero that I really like comes in: Heroes that fill multiple important roles at once against some of the strongest defenses. For example, while he's probably not in many people's lists of "meta heroes", I really like Andvari because he removes fiends (good against vegetables), puts up a firestorm ward (useful against all sorts of hitters, most notably Thaffer) and gives a pretty big mana generation boost (which is always useful unless you're facing Haradea or something).

Those types of heroes might be what makes the difference between your team working and not working while a flashy new hero in their place would get destroyed because they aren't what you need in that scenario. And of course, a lot of heroes nowadays are so complex that they can be the flashy new thing and a great counter hero at once (for example Salome, who is really annoying to fight but also has a few countering aspects), but you also won't always have the best counter for everything unless you chase every other hero that gets released.

So the older counter heroes definitely also have their place in the "meta". All in all, don't concern yourself with what is or isn't a "meta hero", instead find out which teams make sense, what they work and don't work against and which heroes might be able to make them work against the defenses they struggle against.
